Toyota reaches six million electrified vehicles sales in Europe

Toyota has reached the milestone of six million electrified vehicle sales in Europe. It is a figure that reflects the wisdom of a multi-path approach to the reduction of emissions – a strategy which enables each customer to do their part, regardless of where they live.

Toyota’s multi-path approach in Europe encompasses battery electric, fuel cell electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid vehicles. In the quarter century from 1995 to 2021, such vehicles have been instrumental in reducing the average emissions of our European passenger car range by more than 50% (NEDC figures). Continuing that trajectory, Toyota is committed to achieving 100% CO2 reduction in all new vehicles sales by 2035 in Europe. The company will then power on to carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and achieve the same globally ten years later – as outlined in Toyota’s global Environmental Challenge 2050.

Last year, Toyota’s European operations outperformed the market with a 4.0% year-on-year sales increase. A total of more than 1.2 million vehicles were sold throughout the continent in 2024, which in itself is a new annual record. But more importantly, almost three-quarters of these vehicles were electrified, further underlining the broad market acceptance and positive impact of such a diversified approach.

From the 1997 launch of the Prius, the world’s first mass-produced petrol-electric hybrid vehicle, to the end of 2024, Toyota exceeded 30 million electrified vehicles sales.
